SERIES: Simple tips and tricks for training 16 relevant basic competences - PART 3

Discover exercises and food for thought that you can easily implement in your everyday life. In part 3 of the series, we look at the category: entrepreneurial action and implementation competences

What exactly is entrepreneurial action and implementation competences?

By this we mean the ability of individuals to activate themselves and to develop and change themselves and their own working environment (or private environment) on their own initiative. This is why these are also referred to as I-ENVIRONMENT skills. The outside world is therefore inextricably linked to the exercise of competencies.

If you have already completed the first step of the skillaware competence compass, you will have encountered the following activity skills:

  • Decision-making ability
  • Client focus
  • Focus on results
  • Work structure

How can the four competencies be described in more detail?

In addition to a pure definition of competencies, there are also so-called action anchors that can be assigned to competencies. In reality, they help us to determine whether someone is good or less good at a competence . This is because, unlike knowledge, competencies are visible in a person's actual actions. We can test this through observation by comparing the action anchors with a person's demonstrated behavior.

Table with competence definitions and action anchors

The table defines competence at a higher level and shows which behaviors a person will exhibit when competence has already become second nature to him or her.

Tips and tricks for your Competence training

Did you know that you don't necessarily have to attend formal training or courses to develop your skills? You can train almost all interdisciplinary skills on your own. Just 5-10 minutes a day is usually enough. Curious? Then here are our training tips that can be easily and practically integrated into your everyday (professional) life:

Decision-making ability

Tip 1: The next time you go shopping, try the following experiment: Ask yourself two questions about each product. Question 1: "Do I really need this and if so, for what?" and "Do I want this?". Only put what you really need in your shopping basket.

Tip 2: You may sometimes have the feeling that you don't have to make that many relevant decisions at work and therefore don't need to master or really train competence . Here's a little food for thought: take a look at your private life. You make important decisions there every day. Whether it's vacation planning, the weekly shop or the club meeting you might be chairing?

Client focus

Tip 1: When you think of customers, consciously think of your colleagues or people from other departments.

Tip 2: Collect feedback from your customers from time to time. This can also take place informally in the coffee kitchen or via a short email request.

Focus on results

Tip 1: Take a bird's eye view of a task. Look at it from the outside and roughly define the end result. You can then use this as a guide when working on the task. Advantage: From this perspective, you automatically include other parties involved in the task.

Tip 2: Before you hold team meetings, set clear goals for what you want to achieve. Formulate these goals in writing beforehand and, if possible, share them with your team members in advance. This not only promotes transparency, but also helps to focus the discussions on concrete results. After the meeting, review the extent to which the objectives have been achieved and identify steps for improvement if necessary.

Work structure

Tip 1: Think about which atmosphere at home makes you feel particularly creative or increases your concentration (for example, when you are reading a book). Is it perhaps a special light or a particular sitting position? If possible, try to create this environment at your workplace and test whether it brings you added value there too.

Tip 2: We are often so stuck in our work routine that we don't even realize that a change would not only be good for us, but also for the team and companies . Therefore, check at regular intervals whether any relevant framework conditions (including in your private life) have changed, which may require a new working model or workplace model.

We hope these tips were helpful for you and wish you continued success in training your interdisciplinary skills!
